The next generation of address data for the United Kingdom
Part of the OS National Geographic Database (NGD), the OS NGD Address theme provides high quality addressing with key identifiers, additional attributes and daily updates. With full coverage of Great Britain as standard, there is an option to extend coverage to Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. The data is supplied in an easy-to-use data structure making it simpler to work with and more accessible to non-address experts.
OS NGD Address
The OS National Geographic Database (NGD) is a new single store for all of Ordnance Survey’s authoritative data. The data in the NGD has been transformed to provide the detail you need for improved analysis. It is structured into themes, collections and feature types.
OS NGD Address is the theme covering addressing across the United Kingdom in two collections: GB Address and Islands Address. It is designed to underpin a range of analytical use cases and provide the most detailed view of an address and its lifecycle.
OS NGD Address contains all the data from OS AddressBase Premium (with Islands) and more. However, it builds on the AddressBase Premium data by providing useful additional attributes and daily updates (when consumed through an API).
Supporting key identifiers
Four unique identifiers are provided with each feature within OS NGD Address:
- Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN): The primary identifier and unique key for this theme. A UPRN is a unique and persistent numeric identifier for every addressable location in the country.
- Unique Street Reference Number (USRN): A USRN is a unique and persistent identifier for a street which is curated by Local Authority custodians in England, Wales or Scotland.
- OSID (Ordnance Survey Identifier): A primary identifier and unique key used in other OS NGD themes. OSIDs are referenced in the OS NGD Address Theme for purposes of cross-referencing to other themes.
- TOID (Topographic Identifier): An additional secondary identifier which can aid further data linking. TOIDs are an optional attribute and therefore will not always be provided with every feature.
Simple, accurate & accessible
OS NGD Address has a simplified data model which means there’s no need to be a database guru or addressing expert to use the data.
This product is currently available to PSGA members and commercial organisations with a licence to OS AddressBase Premium (optionally supplemented with OS AddressBase Premium Islands).
We can provide OS NGD Address as a managed data supply (in a number of popular GIS data formats) using our secure Europa Data Vault platform or through our enterprise-grade API, viaEuropa.
