A free map celebrating the moon landing and more
In 1969, the first manned moon landing and subsequent moon walk, was one of the most remarkable events in human history. The NASA crew of Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins will forever be remembered for their achievement in July 1969. This map celebrates the Apollo 11 moon landing and other events from this remarkable year.
1969
This map shows the nearside of the moon and the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 landing sites from 1969. There are, however, several other fantastic 50th anniversaries this year, some of which we have celebrated in “orbits” around the moon. This includes the formation of the GIS company, Esri.
Physical displays of this map are accompanied by a small sound module (resembling a domestic doorbell). Pressing the button on the device will play a recording of the final descent phase of Apollo 11’s Lunar Module, including the famous “Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed”. This matches the transcript found under the title of the map.
