British geo-solutions provider Europa Technologies has announced an update to its market-leading digital global map data products. The new 2015.1 version will be available for all products in its popular global data data suite. This release represents the most up-to-date digital map of the world and includes many political and administrative changes.
The new 2015.1 version includes country, city and ocean names in the Greek and Turkish languages, increasing the number of supported languages to twenty one. This extensive and market-leading support for exonyms (foreign names) makes the global map data suite ideal for international organisations with a requirement for a single global mapping product with extensive support for localisation.
Building on the long-standing maintenance of standardised country and region codes, support has been added for the GEC (Geopolitical Entities and Codes) and GENC (Geopolitical Entities, Names, and Codes) codes – the successors to the FIPS 10-4 standard which was officially retired in 2008.
The new release includes updated first and second level administrative boundaries and new high resolution upgrades to coastlines and boundaries. The popular time zones layer has been updated to reflect changes to daylight saving time (DST) world-wide in 2015/2016. To complement new high resolution coastlines for Antarctica, a new layer depicting the ice shelf and political claims has been added to form an up-to-date and comprehensive view of the continent.
Finally, a new lightweight bathymetry layer has been introduced to the global map data suite. Created by generalising the larger scale content, the new layer has been included to facilitate high performance map rendering for small scale views.
Europa Technologies’ renowned global data portfolio is used by Fortune Global 500 companies, including Google (Google Earth / Google Maps), governments and several missions of the United Nations. It has also featured in numerous movies and television productions, such as CSI: Cyber.
The new product release will also be available as a service through the award-winning viaEuropa platform. viaEuropa provides access to hosted, high quality cartography as OGC-compliant web services which can be easily consumed by desktop, mobile and web applications.
Europa Technologies’ founder and director Warren Vick, said: “Version 2015.1 is a significant upgrade to our product portfolio and demonstrates our commitment to maintaining existing layers while also introducing high quality new content. As a world class data manufacturer, we are proud to offer this comprehensive global map data suite in not only in product form, but also through our renowned viaEuropa service.”
